It is in the Details....

There are many ferns growing in the rainforests of Dominica.  There are the plant variety growing out of the ground or others that have decided to grow off the side of a tree.  There are also ferns that are trees and when I say trees - they are TREES.  They are tall.  The best though are all these ferns are growing large because they are in the rainforest yet they have the most delicate leaves.  This is what I found today while walking through one of the forests.  These delicate leaves on a large tree.  How something so large can have something so delicate is a wonderous thing.  I guess it is in the details of the plant that make it so....  watch out for the details!

What is at Home?

It has been raining now for three or four days.  I have lost count.  Today though the rain was relentless.  there weren't many breaks so it was in the house for the day.  I was trying to figure out what I could take a picture of in the house that has some significance.  These tractors (and the others in the house) are very important to our 2 year old son.  He continues to love tractors and they bring much happiness to him.  Can life be that simple for adults.  Find what you love (within legal limits) and embrace and enjoy it without abandon.  Can it be so simple to really enjoy something for the simple sake of enjoying it?  Everyday we should try......

Trees and Roots

There are so many interesting trees on a tropical island.  One of the most unusual is this tree that has roots above ground.  The tree limbs are going everywhere and it is just amazing how far out they reach.  If the roots are healthy no telling how far they can reach!

Who Needs Electricity???

This is my posting for yesterday.  I was getting ready to figure out what to take a photo of and boom.... the transfer box and fuses next to our house caught on fire.  There was a series of large booms, fires, and sparks.  We quickly turned the main electric switch to the house and were in the dark.  Hence no posting yesterday since the electricity did not come back on for 20 hours.  So here is one of the fuses on fire during the initial blowing up.  Some days the photo of the day is an amazing unexpected happening that one is able to catch in the moment.  This is why I have my camera near by at all times - even though the unexpected photo may not be the best photo quality - it can tell a great story!

Water

Water is such an amazing thing.  It covers 70% of the earth and there is so much we haven't seen in the oceans and seas.  While walking on the beach, it is easy to miss stuff that is right in front of you let alone what is out in the ocean.  These were on a rock facing the water.  People were walking on the other side of the rocks on the beach and not even seeing these even though the water is very shallow next to them.  It takes time, patience and relaxation to really see what is happening around us.

Funky Fruits

Living on a tropical island allows for interesting fruits.  This is one - it is the soursop.  We have had a twig growing next to the driveway.  It was getting bigger and looked like a weed to us.  Amazingly, this spring it started producing soursops.  They are hard to find on the tree and we have yet to see a flower before the fruit appears.  This is a young fruit and needs more time to ripen.  Once it is ripe, you can eat it right away.  It is custardy with many seeds inside.

Trying again.....

Well here I go again.  I am going to try to see if I can get my goal of a photo a day going again.  I didn't realize so much time has gone by since the last posting.  It is amazing how quickly time goes by.  So I am starting again.  Out to try once again to get going and take some photographs.  It is so important to do it each day.  So here is my next photo ... This is the underside of an almond tree leaf.  We were at the beach and it was on the beach, just laying there.  I want to try to get some more photos as the leaf was much redder and I want to capture it.  Oh more photos to take.....
